What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
I started the company to build a better world for my mom. Her mom and sister both had Alzheimer's, and I saw how hard that was on both of them and on her. I set out to build a better world for those with Alzheimer's and their families. It's a race against time before my mom gets to that point and for every other family just like ours.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Usually with my wife Casey and our dog Minnie. We love reading, gaming, cooking, and finding ways to get active outdoors together!

Shirley Nickels

Chief Operating Officer
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2016. It's been important to me to be able to support fellow daughter caregivers that have to witness their loved ones progressively lose themselves to the disease while preserving their dignity. In addition, I believe being part of SafelyYou allows me to give my mother purpose which is what she values most.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
With my family (husband and 3 kids) in the sun by some form of water - pool, river, lake, or beach.

Tom Bang

Chief Strategy Officer
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
Personally, I’m committed to advancing technologies that improve the lives of those living with cognitive challenges. I share my father’s journey with ALZ. And with my wife, manage our son’s care, who at age 21 suffered a massive ischemic stroke. Professionally, I believe technological advancements must provide economic benefit for all constituents. I’m focused on assuring capital investors, liability insurers, clinicians and ultimately healthcare plans benefit and support proven technology investments for their operators.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Likely, in one of my four small senior living homes. They provide a challenging and creative experience to learn how we can improve the lives of our residents, families, and caregivers, via enhanced care practices and innovative technology adoption.

Dr. Glen Xiong

Chief Medical Officer
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
I lived with my grandparents when I was 9-13. My grandfather lived until he was 96 while my grandmother lived until her late 80s. They both developed memories loss in the last few years of their lives.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
I'm probably taking my kids to activities or picking them up from activities, or hopefully doing something fun with them such as swimming, rollerblading, or reading.

Russell Burt

Vice President of Engineering
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
My grandfather died of Alzheimer's, and currently my dad, although not officially diagnosed, is headed that way. Certainly we are all headed toward senior living and this is a way for me to give back to the the current and future community.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Anything outside: skiing, running, biking. Vermont=outdoors.

What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
When I was younger, it was always explained to me that our grandma was just forgetful. Often times, we would find her out walking at odd hours looking "lost" or doing something we repeatedly told her not to do when in reality, she may have been suffering from undiagnosed early memory loss. I felt the frustration of what she was doing but not understanding why she was doing what she was doing. There are millions of families who suffer through the memory loss of a loved one and I'm honored to have the opportunity to help work towards a solution for better care.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Training my dogs at the park, beach or lake. We enjoy doing sports, playing frisbee, learning new tricks, or riding waves!

Alex Au

Probably Burlingame Public Shore. I usually spend an hour there weekly.

David Bramley

Sr Business Development Manager
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
I'm personally invested in SafelyYou and passionate to help drive change because my mom was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's. During her care journey she unfortunately suffered a number of unwitnessed fall events that negatively impacted her health. I'm confident that a solution like SafelyYou would have not only improved her care but it would also have been very helpful for my siblings and I, who were doing our best to try and understand what happened and help manage her care.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
I view life is one big adventure and there is no one else that I'd rather explore it with than my family (Christi & River). Whether that is driving across the country and moving to Nashville during a pandemic, road tripping to see family in Chicago, Wisconsin, or Michigan, or simply an evening family walk to get ice cream and stop-off at the playground on the way home. You can usually find me outside exploring with the people I love.

Caroline Browne, MSPT

Director of Customer Success

My grandfather developed vascular dementia approximately 4 years ago. I was a care provider for him and helped him through multiple hospitalizations. As physical therapist who has worked with people living with dementia I found myself being his voice and helping my family navigate through this difficult time.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
When I’m not working I’m either in our workshop with my husband making custom furniture, outside hiking, or in the river enjoying the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Christopher Brodt

What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
I've had several family members suffer from dementia and falls that eventually precipitated their move to nursing facilities. It's very rewarding for me personally to help SafelyYou build solutions that will provide a better quality of life and care for those living with dementia.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Very likely in my garage wrenching on a '66 Mustang or some other DIY project. When the weather is nice I'm taking our 1 1/2 your old dog to the park or on a bike ride around Chicago.

Hannah Cole-Butler

Where can we find you when you're not working?

Brette Digon

What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
My mom has had multiple falls, and while she doesn't have memory impairment, sometimes she can't tell me what happened because it was all so sudden, so disorienting, and so upsetting. Not knowing is very concerning for me, and makes it difficult to prevent the same fall from happening again. I'm proud to be working for a company that can help families understand exactly what happened--and have greater peace of mind--after a fall occurs.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Spending quality time with the world's greatest dog, John Oates. Or hunting for all things vintage.

Eddie De La Rosa

Account Executive

Knowing that I am part of an organization that could help them both improve their quality of life is a driving force when I get up everyday to get to work.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
When I'm not working I'm spending time with my wife and 3 kids. We're off having an adventure as a family or I'm back in the garage restoring an old go-kart with my sons.

Adrienne Goree

What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
I worked in a continuing care retirement community in the past and found that I had a passion for elder care, and especially for those living with dementia. Spending time connecting with people that are going through cognitive change and offering some company and comfort is one of the best experiences I've had. I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to be an advocate for seniors that often don't have a voice.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Motorhome camping with the family, walking our American Bulldog around town, doing artsy crafty things with my daughter, or cheering a little too loudly at my son's basketball games.

Laura Hastings, OTR/L

Customer Success Manager
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
I am an occupational therapist by training and worked directly with residents and families in assisted living and memory care communities before joining SafelyYou. I attend an info session and had a major ah-ha moment! I could immediately see the impact this technology would make in the way therapists think about falls and implement effective solutions to keep seniors safe.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Taking long walks around San Francisco. I love exploring the unique neighborhoods and finding great food along the way!

PJ Hussey

My dad passed away in 2013 after a long dementia journey. My mom took amazing care of my dad and this experience helped me understand how difficult the dementia journey is. I am excited to be part of a company that is focused on improving the quality of life for dementia patients, their loved ones and their care givers..

What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
Watching my parents help my grandparents with a few falls opened my eyes to the challenge of falls (especially for those who experience cognitive decline). When I learned about SafelyYou I understood how easy it could be to figure out what was going on with my grandparents as they were too proud to share why they had fallen.

Where can we find you when you're not working?

What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
My grandmother, who help raised me, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. I have seen first hand the struggles of caring for a love one with this disease. While caring for her we did find her twice on the ground. I only wish SafelyYou was available 15+ year ago.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Hanging out with family and friends. Outside, doing anything. Love being outside when I can. ( I live in Chicago nice days are limited)

Ed McDonald

Sr Staff Software Engineer
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
I became close friends with a QA team member at my last job that was impacted by dementia in her family. She is just a few years younger than me and her father was diagnosed with dementia a few years back. Watching the life shift that came for her and the difficulties for her family with a recent fall he had has really put SafelyYou's mission into perspective for me and I can only hope to make an impact on families such as hers with what we do.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Spending time with family, playing board games with friends, or making BBQ on my smoker.

Johnney Miller

Director of Operations
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
My step-grandfather had Alzheimer's and was at an advanced stage before I got to meet him. Over time, my stepfather, who was a very proud man, started to show signs and he tried to hide it. I know it was scary for him. Working for SafelyYou creates this inner feeling that I'm honoring the memories of my grandfather and father. Like my father, I wonder what is next for me. I guess you can say, I'm also paying it forward in case my journey takes me down a similar path.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
My wife and I enjoy running outdoors with our young son. Like everyone else, when we are free, we love exploring nature and to be out in the fresh air. I think that's why my son is now fascinated with finding new insects on every trail we go.

Nicole Murphy

Implementation Manager
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
My grandmother lived with dementia and she was consistently having unwitnessed falls in her bedroom. My grandfather also had many falls and one resulted in a hip fracture. I really wish their senior living communities could have had SafelyYou because I know it would have changed their lives.

Where can we find you when you're not working?

Ann Olson

Where can we find you when you're not working?
I love to travel, cook (when I have time) and take leisurely hikes outside.

Scott Porter

Sales Ops Analyst
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
My grandpa passed from Alzheimer's and my mom has been in working with cognitively impaired residents for a long time. I want to help improve the quality of care peoples' loved ones receive by understanding what their needs are and not just guessing. And SafelyYou helps do that. I also want to help direct care staff get time back in their lives to spend with families. I think of my mom, working 9+ hrs everyday because she had to fill out extra incident reports and then coming home and cooking dinner, having no time to spend with family. I want to help give some of that time back by reducing extra work that may not be needed by care staff. And SafelyYou helps do that, too.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
You can find me hiking around national parks. Or exploring live music venues and new breweries.

Kevin Quang

Digital Marketing Manager
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
My father had. I lived with him and did not know much about it and I thought it was very normal for old people to forget things as they aged. I did not have an appropriate solution for my father and saw him struggling every day. Now, at SafelyYou, I understand about Alzheimer's and I'm happy to work for a company the helps people like my father.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
At the beach.

Charles Roberson

Sr Account Executive
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
My favorite childhood relative, Aunt Bea, contracted Alzheimer's in her 60's. My experience in watching the sad progression of her disease motivated me to change my career focus from printing and publishing software to elder care technology, where I have spent the last 13+ years. It's been incredibly rewarding to help transform this industry at the leading edge of where science and care combined can significantly change outcomes, and SafelyYou does that in exemplary fashion.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Saltwater fishing or slow smoking BBQ!

Scott Sawicki

Director of Marketing
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
My father is currently living in a senior living community back home near where I grew up in Indiana. He was diagnosed with early-onset dementia, likely Alzheimer's disease, back in 2013. Fortunately the medicines he's been on have kept him fairly stable these past several years. I'm proud to work at a company that will help support him when he inevitably needs additional care.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Probably the kitchen. I went to pastry school, so baking is another creative outlet for me. Or maybe on a run trying to burn off all that I baked and then consumed!

Wendy Starnes, OTR/L

Customer Success Manager
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
I have always loved spending time with older adults, especially my English grandmother. There is so much we can learn from each other, even in the presence of dementia. As an occupational therapist I strongly believe in keeping older adults as active and safe as possible to continue to enjoy life!

Where can we find you when you're not working?
I love cooking and trying new recipes. And living in Florida, I enjoy being outdoors, whether hiking through palm trees and mangroves or at the beach assisting with sea turtle rescue as a volunteer!

Aaron Stevens

What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
I lost a grandmother a few years ago when she suffered a stroke and fell. Because she lived alone and was unmonitored we weren't aware of her state for several hours and a lot of damage occurred in that time. Having the opportunity to work with SafelyYou and have a hand in developing a product that both improves the quality of life and potentially saves the lives of individuals who need extra care is extremely rewarding.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Probably on the water. I’ve been an avid surfer for many years now and it’s taken me to some of the most incredible places on the globe.

Raghav Subramaniam

Lead Computer Vision Engineer
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
I love working at the intersection of engineering and healthcare. There are so many difficult and important problems to solve in the space.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Practicing violin or sitting in orchestra rehearsal. I've been playing the violin since I was a kid, and I currently play in the Diablo Symphony Orchestra in the East Bay.

Derryck Thomas

What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
My sister worked at a memory care facility in Vermont before suffering a TBI. Now she herself suffers seizures that make her vulnerable to falling injuries. She cannot live alone anymore, but hopefully advancing technology like that made by SafelyYou will grant people like her a little more freedom, and help the families and professionals who care for our loved ones.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
The golf course, camping with the family, recording personal music projects, or trying to scheme ways to get back to flight school...

Ralph Tietjen

Operations Manager
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
I was initially drawn to SafelyYou because of the technology that we're building to elevate healthcare for aging adults, especially those with dementia. As an Operations Manager, my job is to implement the SafelyYou technology at senior living communities. When SafelyYou is installed at a new community, I know that we're one step closer to providing healthcare professionals with an extra line of defense to improve the level of care they provide their residents; there's no better feeling.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
I'm a photographer and enjoy exploring the Bay Area with camera in tow. When I'm not out and about, you'll find me resting at home with my husband and our two 11 year-old cats , Andy and Zandor.

Lee Ward-Henderson

Office Manager
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
Our family lost my mum-in-law in October 2020 to a fall on a walk outside of her Seniors home. She was suffering from a drug interaction induced dementia at the time…..perhaps with Safely-You cameras the fall would have been detected right away and EMT could have been called in earlier. We will never know now, but having experienced this loss I know that our family would have been onboard with this additional service to protect our beloved matriarch.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
When not working I’m still busy: I will be walking and caring for our Old English Sheep Dog, two cats, and my hubby. Then I check in on my son up in Canada at University, while re-designing kitchens, bathrooms and homes for friends and family and myself, because I love to change up my environment having been lucky enough to live around the world . And then evenings I am happy to entertain and cook for large groups because ultimately friendship and family is what life is all about.

Micah Willard

Senior Software Engineer
What is your personal connection to SafelyYou?
My wife's grandmother is currently in assisted living and has been diagnosed with Dementia. I'm proud to work at a company that will help provide better care for not only her, but for all those in similar situations. It's not every day you get to work on a product that can directly help the ones you love.

Where can we find you when you're not working?
Possibly at Black Water River; playing and recharging with my family. If not there, then in our living room playing a round of card games or Mario Kart together. I love the strategizing and puzzle solving aspects of all games, which is what led me to my career in Computer Science!
